Slight increase in official development assistance in 2023
On 11 April, the OECD unveiled the figures for official development assistance in 2023, reaching 223.7 billion dollars, an increase of 1.8% compared to 2022.
Although this is a record amount for the 5th year running, the industrialised countries have only redistributed 0.37% of their GNI, compared with the 0.7% promised in 1970.
France has slipped down one place to become the 5th largest donor of ODA, with an amount of 15.4 billion dollars, or 0.50% of its GNI - compared with 0.56% in 2022 - a fall of 11%. This is the biggest drop since 2007. This unprecedented fall will be compounded in 2024 by the €742 million cut announced by the government last February.
