How much do American, British, French or German people trust their charitable organisations?

Publié le 10/01/2019, modifié le 26/08/2019.

There are some very mixed views on charitable organisations, with respondents from all four countries displaying a full range of trust and distrust.

German people are those who are the most likely to express distrust about charitable organisations, and similarly, the least likely to say that they have confidence in these organisations.

Around 40% of American, British, French and German citizens all seem to hover between trust and distrust. The main message to come from this particular survey question seems to be that charitable organisations do not generate any large or clear feeling of trust. With only 29% of respondents expressing confidence in these organisations, it is evident that there is much uncertainty or doubt about their work or objective.

This data comes from our survey conducted by the YouGov Institute and piloted by the research team at University College London and the University of Birmingham as part of the project Aid Attitudes Tracker which measures the evolution of opinions and behaviors on issues of international solidarity in four countries.
