Citizenship and sense of belonging of French citizens to Europe and to the World

While 92% of French respondents claim to be French citizens, 57% also consider themselves “citizens of the world”.
The geographical, national or cultural criteria of French citizenship does not exclude the majority of French people from also feeling a sense of belonging to the world.
64% of French people also consider themselves European citizens. The European Union is therefore largely considered as an entity that goes far beyond its economic implications. In providing a feeling of citizenship, Europe predominantly appears as a political reality.
This data comes from our survey conducted by the YouGov Institute and piloted by the research team at University College London and Birmingham University as part of the project Aid Attitudes Tracker which measures the evolution of opinions and behaviors on issues of international solidarity in four countries.
