Tackling hunger in the Sahel: a priority for 41% of French people

    Published on 14/12/2018.

41% of French people think tackling hunger should be a priority for French aid in the Sahel region (Mali, Mauritania, Burkina-Faso, and Chad)

73% of French people agree, or at least do not disagree, that France should investment in the Sahel region particularly given the situation of hunger and malnutrition in these countries.

Only 13% of French people disagree.

Interestingly however, although tackling hunger in the Sahel seems to be a consensual issue for most people, neither did it generate particularly robust views: 13% did not have a view, and 32% could not give a clear answer.

There is only a small impact of political preference on this question, visible for far-right voters (34% of whom expressly disagreed with making hunger a priority investment for French aid in the Sahel).

This data comes from our survey conducted by the YouGov Institute and piloted by the research team at University College London and the University of Birmingham as part of the project Aid Attitudes Tracker which measures the evolution of opinions and behaviors on issues of international solidarity in four countries.
