    CHAT 2030

    To make the content published on its website easier to access, Focus 2030 offers CHAT 2030, a conversational tool based on artificial intelligence (AI) and designed as a gateway to its analysis, data, and resources. By responding to questions asked in natural language, this AI interface helps users identify a publication more quickly, retrieve a key figure, or access useful content on international development issues. CHAT 2030 is part of Focus 2030’s mission to make data and analysis more accessible, easier to understand, and easier to use for development actors, as well as for anyone seeking to learn more about the international solidarity issues.

    Who is CHAT 2030 for?

    By making Focus 2030’s published content easier to access, CHAT 2030 can support the work of civil society organisations and actors, researchers, journalists, public officials, as well as anyone seeking faster access to verified, sourced, and contextualised information on international development issues. The answers provided are based on Focus 2030 publications and give priority to a neutral approach grounded in facts, available data, and cited sources.

    CHAT 2030 is a first step in the development of tools designed to improve access to the knowledge, data, and resources produced by Focus 2030. The tool will continue to evolve to strengthen the quality of its answers, make relevant sources easier to identify, and improve the user experience.

    CHAT 2030: Querying Focus 2030 content more quickly

    CHAT 2030 is a conversational tool designed to make the content published on Focus2030.org easier to access. Based on a question asked in natural language, the tool identifies the most relevant passages in Focus 2030 publications and returns a concise answer based on that content.

    CHAT 2030 can, in particular:

    • quickly retrieve information contained in an explainer, analysis, or brief published by Focus 2030;
    • provide a summary of a topic covered on the website;
    • make useful pages and sources easier to access;
    • better contextualise a figure, data point, or indicator related to international development issues.

    Designed as a search interface, CHAT 2030 makes it easier to explore a large volume of content and directs users to the most useful resources.

    The current version of CHAT 2030 does not replace in-depth drafting or research work. The answers generated rely exclusively on content and data already available on Focus2030.org. CHAT 2030 also does not generate charts, images, or visual elements: answers are provided in text form only.

    CHAT 2030: How the tool works?

    CHAT 2030 combines artificial intelligence, document retrieval, and text generation. When a question is asked, the system analyses the query, identifies the most relevant excerpts from content published by Focus 2030 within an internal knowledge base, and then formulates a concise and structured response based on those elements.

    The website’s content was prepared and organised in advance so that the system can retrieve useful information quickly. This architecture helps keep the answers within the scope of Focus 2030 publications and the data available on the website.

    CHAT 2030: What technology is used?

    Based on the information provided, CHAT 2030 uses artificial intelligence technology developed by OpenAI.

    The tool operates with short-term conversational memory. It can take account of messages exchanged within the same discussion to ensure continuity. However, it does not retain memory from one session to another.

    CHAT 2030 was configured by Focus 2030 to align with the website’s themes and with the nature of the information published by the organisation.

    CHAT 2030: Where the data is hosted?

    The chatbot’s technical infrastructure is managed by Focus 2030. The data used by the system is hosted on a dedicated Focus 2030 server located in France.

    CHAT 2030: What data is used?

    Data protection and transparency regarding how the tool operates are key points of attention in the project. CHAT 2030 is not designed to identify the people using it and does not collect personal information for that purpose.

    Questions submitted and answers generated may, however, be stored in anonymised form in an internal database. This data is used to monitor how the chatbot operates, measure its use, and gradually improve the quality of its answers.

    To protect the confidentiality of exchanges, it is important not to enter personal, sensitive, or confidential information into the chatbot.
