Tackling gender equality is the right and “just” thing to do

    Published on 27/07/2018.

For 76% of French people, tackling gender equality is the right and “just” thing to do. It is also a worthwhile investment, according to 67%.

Whatever the wording or reasoning – whether it is about a worthwhile investment, or an effective policy – French people are overwhelmingly in favor of equality between women and men.

Appealing to the idea of justice and equality is a powerful argument for the French. But appealing to the idea of a ’worthwhile’ investment also drives positive opinion by signalling that a move towards gender equality will have knock-on positive spillover.

This data comes from our survey conducted by the YouGov Institute and piloted by the research team at University College London and Birmingham University as part of the project Aid Attitudes Tracker which measures the evolution of opinions and behaviors on issues of international solidarity in four countries.
