Which actors are responsible for helping people in developing countries

More than a quarter of French have no idea which actors should be the primary organisations or individuals to provide assistance in developing countries.
For those who did have a view, the primary actors on poverty in developing countries should be national entities (governments of rich countries and governments of developing countries) or international organizations such as the UN. This shows that for French people, the solution to poverty in the world is primarily in the hands of large-scale political entities.
The role of NGOs in dealing with poverty in the world is mentioned in fourth place by only 7% of French people. Similarly, the French do not see poverty reduction as a principal responsibility of citizens, local authorities or philanthropists.
This data comes from our survey conducted by the YouGov Institute and piloted by the research team at University College London and Birmingham University as part of the project Aid Attitudes Tracker which measures the evolution of opinions and behaviors on issues of international solidarity in four countries.
