The 2019 G7: French Priorities

France has the Presidency of the G7 in 2019. The G7 Heads of State and Government meet for the G7 summit in Biarritz between the 24-26 August 2019.

The French G7 in 2019 will bring together the G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US) as well as international organisations including the EU, and dozens of other actors such as NGOs, businesses, local authorities, researchers, etc.

The French government has identified 5 priorities for its G7 Presidency in 2019:

  • the fight against ’lottery of life’ inequality: gender equality, access to education and quality health services;
  • protecting the planet and the environment with a particular focus on a "fair" ecological transition, protecting biodiversity and the oceans;
  • strengthening of social protection for globalisation especially around better and fairer trade, fiscal and development policies;
  • action promoting peace, tackling security and terrorism;
  • exploration of benefits from digital and AI progress.
