When awareness of global poverty goes hand in hand with EU membership

Published 10 August 2018 in Surveys

It is among EU supporters that we see the highest number of citizens who are aware of poverty in the world.

63% of supporters of the European Union say they are concerned about the plight of people in developing countries, compared to 25% for those who are against France’s membership of the European Union.

On issues of development, opinions about France’s membership of the European Union represent the opposition between the supporters of an "open" world and the defenders of a "closed" world.

This data comes from our survey conducted by the YouGov Institute and piloted by the research team at University College London and Birmingham University as part of the project Aid Attitudes Tracker which measures the evolution of opinions and behaviors on issues of international solidarity in four countries.
